Above & Congealed were created for my first solo exhibition in 2018 and mark the beginning of my exploration into experimental photography.
These two early series focus on abstracting everyday subjects found around my home—objects and environments that were familiar, but seen through a shifted lens.
A surreal landscape created using a sprouted sweet potato.
This series plays with scale and silhouette, turning an everyday object into something unfamiliar. The twisting sprouts take on the feel of alien trees or strange growths in an imagined world. It’s a quiet experiment in seeing the ordinary differently and shifting your perspective just enough to make something small feel expansive.
Ellipses was taken mid-demolition, capturing a building in a state of partial erasure.
The series focuses on what lingers. Crumbling bricks, open doorways, and traces of what used to be. It’s about that moment just before something disappears, when a place still feels full of memory, even as it falls apart.
Captured during a camping trip in August 2019.
This series explores the often, overlooked details of the landscape through an abstracted lens. Each photograph reflects the things I focused on, the textures, colours, and patterns that emerged from the rocks. The images focus on fragments of the natural world, revealing a personal way of seeing shaped by movement, light, and stillness. This body of work is both a visual record of place and a study in perception, how the landscape shifts when we pay attention to its subtleties.
This series features Rorschach-like images created by mixing liquid dish soap and food dye.
The colours blend and react, forming abstract shapes that resemble inkblot patterns. Each image is a unique, spontaneous result, inviting the viewer to envision their own subject and showcasing the beauty of simple materials.
These images were captured during a vacation on Vancouver Island.
While the main focus of the trip wasn’t photography, it still played a significant role in how I experienced the place. In between exploring and relaxing, I found places and things that caught my eye, resulting in a collection of my favourite moments on the island preserved.
Captured on my second trip to Vancouver Island, this series reflects a more intentional approach to photography.
Unlike my first visit, where taking photos was more spontaneous, this time I set out with the goal of documenting the experience. As a result, the images form a visual story of my journey across the island. Offering a more complete picture of how I saw and connected with each place I visited.
“Photography that captures decay and beauty in one shot. It’s punk, it’s nature, it’s totally unique.”
