William Carroll

Multidisciplinary fine artist. Artist not a smartist is my motto.

Bio

William Carroll is a self-taught interdisciplinary artist with a focus on experimental photography and sculpture created using alternative materials, currently based out of Kingston, ON. William is a non-binary person living on the autism spectrum and sees their disability as the unique gift that it is, striving to present their distinct visual perspective while endeavouring to advocate for the value of diversity in all its forms and accessibility in the arts for all. Currently, finding fascination in decay, William is working on a number of series around the idea that mould is beautiful and the different ways that decay can shape our perspective.

Statement

Working primarily in sculpture and photography, I produce high-contrast and low-saturation landscape images referential to my imprinted visual experience with 1990s National Geographic print magazines and experimental images using alternative processes with an intention to be playful while creating. When working in sculpture, I produce large-scale pieces with a focus on social commentary through the distinct visual perspective of being a person on the autism spectrum. 

Moving forward in my practice, mould and decay, along with guerilla installation of my work, have become a central focus and are influencing many of the series I create.
