Series Overview/Methodology

Continuing on my series of experimental scans, I explored ideas around using plastic, plant material, and water directly on the scanner plate. I also received a new (used) HP DeskJet F2120, and this new scanner was used for all of the images in this set of images.

Scan 34 (My Left Hand)

The first scan with my new scanner. This image was a test to see what this unit was capable of. However, I really enjoyed the outcome and chose to include it in the final collection.

Scan 35-38 (Juniper and Plastic Wrap)

The first scan with my new scanner. This image was a test to see what this unit was capable of. However, I really enjoyed the outcome and chose to include it in the final collection.

Scan 39-41 (Lilly Leaves, Plastic Wrap, and Water)

I placed plastic wrap and lots of water directly onto the scan plate and while performing the scans I flickered a fill light in the background.

Scan 42-44 (Lilly Leaves, Plastic Wrap, Water, and My Hand)

Using the same setup as scans 39-41, I attempted to move my hand at the same pace as the scanner to create depth in the image through the background colour.

Scan 45-51 (Various Plant Materials, Plastic Wrap, and Water)

Using lilly leaves, juniper, and other plant material, along with plastic wrap and water I performed these scans with a large amount of fill light to create the stark white background. Additionally, I tried to create subtle movement in the images by slowly moving the plastic wrap during the scanning process.

Final Thoughts

The ability to put water directly on the scanner's plate and the experimentation provided by the capabilities of different units made this round of scans equally as exciting as the first. I look forward to building on this series further.
