Vancouver Island II
All of the images in this series were taken from May 7-14, 2022.
My initial visit to Vancouver Island took place in 2017 when I was still trying to decide what exactly my artistic voice was. This caused me to experience the island very differently, creating images I thought viewers wanted to see, instead of images I wanted to see, leaving my first series of the same name slightly muddled in its intention.
Vancouver Island II is a series of images that I wanted to share with you, and more importantly, things that I wanted to see. This gave me a greater connection with the spaces and the land I was photographing. Experiencing them specifically from the mindset of a visitor, and actively discussing topics like; leaving these spaces behind; what they could have looked like before colonization; and how much beauty we have ripped from the land; with my travel companions — These are all topics I didn't think about before, I almost actively avoided them, for me then I was simply there and then I wasn't — In doing so I feel I have created a series that showcases the still remaining natural beauty while also highlighting the ways we have changed these spaces in an attempt to shape the land to our will.
