3Ecologies

In late October of 2021 I travelled to the Artist Residency 3Ecologies with my good friend and occasional collaborator Kelsey Pearson.

When travelling to 3Ecologies I had set an intention to photograph both the spaces I was drawn to on the road, in addition to, the spaces I interacted with while staying on the 3Ecologies property. I wanted to focus on honouring those spaces and my experiences in them.
The above images are a collection of memories, shared from one to another. This trip was the first time in at least ten years that I have taken photographs that function as memories, this isn't to say that I have not participated in the images of others intended for the same purpose, just that I have not taken any myself. This preference is due to the experience of memory as a sensory record versus the optical record created with a photograph. When experiencing a memory, it is like I am in the moment, feeling physical sensations, and waves of emotion. In contrast, none of those sensations are present when I look at a photograph.

The 3Ecologies Project is an autonomous organization dedicated to participatory experimentation in research-creation, and ecological thought and action. It operates at the intersection of artistic practice, philosophy, and social engagement. 3E builds on the nearly two decades of experience of its parent organization, SenseLab, expanding its scope to include land-based activities on a wild stretch of forest three hours north of Montreal.
